Summer Game Fest this year provided a few good surprises among all the horror-esque games. It was fun to get two LEGO games appearing during the event. And also some news on Hitman, with a new Elusive Target to be enjoying. Perfect timing with its launch on Switch 2. Those and a few others were what caught my eye during this Summer Game Fest, so let’s take a look at them all. Starting with…
Fortnite teasing the finale of the Star Wars season that has currently been running. Galactic Battle has provided a lot of Star Wars fun in the battle royale, and now Death Star Sabotage will end it. This live event on 7/June is separate from the battle royale mode, taking the action inside the Death Star to make sure it cannot fire its planet-cracking beam. These events usually help transition the story into the next season, so it’s sure to be a good one.
A rather weird one that I’m likely not going to buy but still felt worth mentioning is a game using puppets. That’s a boxing game? Yes, Feel That Boxing uses puppets as the characters, feeling very much like a spiritual successor to Punch Out!. While it’s only confirmed for Steam at present, with no date as yet, I’m sure it’ll find a fanbase that loves it.

A new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds provided us with its release date, along with confirming crossover content with other Sega properties. And Minecraft. Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker from Persona were revealed as part of the trailer. Minecraft was revealed as part of a second small trailer, showing a racing world completely Minecraft-styled. The game, as revealed by Takashi Iizuka, will also be crossplay across all platforms it releases on.
Even though I have Mario Kart World to be enjoying, I still want to grab CrossWorlds on 25/September. Since its announcement, I’ve loved that this feels the largest Sonic racing game yet, with characters such as Espio and Cream playable in something other than a mobile game in a long time. I’m unsure as yet whether I’ll go for that season pass, but if it continues the strength shown with that Minecraft tease, I could be persuaded.
For the two LEGO games, the first is a co-op adventure where two bricks work together to build solutions to puzzles, control vehicles, and more. LEGO Voyagers looks very cute, though I’ve got more of an interest in the other one that appeared during Summer Game Fest. Yes, LEGO Party is here! There are so many various themes seen during the trailer, with some fun minigames on offer. Of the two, I’m going for this one, as long as it can promise a great amount of variation with its boards. Coming this year, so not long to wait.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 is looking so good! It looks from the trailer as though the park building has been improved a lot, with a lot of tools to customise it to preference. It also looks like breeding is being expanded on, allowing for juvenile dinosaurs to be a distinct entity from the adults. This is feeling very much the definitive dinosaur park building game, which I’m very much going to get stuck into when it releases 21/October.
Announced last year at the Xbox Games Showcase, Mixtape shows itself again at a June event. Once again showing the dreamlike reenactments of a group of friends as they relive memories of their past, I’m still feeling the sense of nostalgia that this one brings. Beethoven and Dinosaur are sure to deliver a very nice greatest hits of experiences for this teenage group. Though there’s not yet a release date for it, with the trailer just giving a coming soon.
IO Interactive had a segment during this Summer Game Fest, showing off a trailer for MindsEye, which is looking pretty full of action. Using the creative tools of MindsEye, a Hitman mission will be added to the game. With 007 First Light already known to the world, IO Interactive are also crossing the Bond universe with Hitman, with a new Elusive Target using a villain from Casino Royale. It should be a very good one to experience, especially since Mads Mikkelsen returns to voice LeChiffre.
Overall, a nice selection of games coming for me, and there’s still more events to add onto them. Future Games Show is sure to provide a few, with the Xbox Games Showcase likely having a few big ones. Summer Game Fest this year was a nice watch, even if I was splitting my attention between it and Mario Kart World. The same will be done for Future Games Show, where my racing skill will once again dip if anything interesting catches my eye.
