With the Future Games Show Summer Showcase this year, I didn’t watch it live. Too distracted with Mario Kart World as I was. But watching the morning after, I was right in saying it would have some surprises for me. Quite a few adventures to go on, and even a racing game. Plus, it reminded me that the second Duck Detective is now out, so I’ll go hunting for The Ghost of Glamping soon enough.

Another I already knew of is Formula Legends, developed by 3DClouds. I’ve enjoyed a few of what the studio have put out, with this new racing game of theirs providing some top-down racing fun. It looks surprisingly in depth, with an F1 through the ages style progression that changes up the visuals of the tracks per decade. There is a demo now released for it, so I’ll be getting on that to see how it handles.

As part of one of the highlight reels of the Future Games Show, there were two games that sparked my interest. The first being Under Par Golf Architect. A golf course construction game, it looks to hold a lot of options to make a dream course, managing it, and even playing yourself. Seems like it will be a great one to invest some time in. As is the second, being Animalkind.

A dog sits on a deck chair on the beach while a raccoon and cat sleep nearby. A mech waits to be used.

Playing as an animal, such as dog, cat, or raccoon, they explore this world and build a town. With the help of a mech that they control. Whether cutting trees, flying across the world, or hammering rocks, this versatile mech helps the animals to craft a town. Attracting many other animals who will form a community. There’s so much to enjoy with this one, all wrapped up in a cute artstyle.

Now, I’m not really one for horror. But when dinosaurs appear on the screen, I’m taking an interest even if I might not play. Deathground sees players navigate environments to complete missions while keeping a watchful eye out for the dinosaurs that roam them. I’d be playing it solo if I was to get it, which would likely make the survival all the harder. But the thrill would be so much greater, too.

The Bureau of Fantastical & Arcane Affairs grabbed my interest from its fantasy stylings. And it seems to be a funny adventure, too. The Bureau makes sure every hero has a story to tell, with players taking on both sides of coin. First going around the locations to make sure everything is in place for an exciting story, then being the hero going through that story. I’m sure I’ll be very entertained with what this has to offer.

The Explorator has some gorgeous cell shaded visuals, with a world that’s diverse and full of mystery. A first-person shooter, it has now released in Early Access, letting players experience three of its chapters as they descend underground in search of why monsters are now emerging, attacking anyone who dares take to the tunnels in search of the ancient city of Atlantis.

An abandoned house in a forest protected by a four-legged machine.

Herdling feels full of mystery, as a person undertakes an expedition with a herd of Calicorns. Working together, human and animal survive what awaits them on this alpine journey. There’s a demo now available, with the full game coming sometime in the summer. For me, this is one I’ll try the demo out for to see if it grabs me. It looks lovely, so the visuals are sure to grab me even if nothing else does.

Fading Echo held promise as a magical adventure, utilising water-based powers to traverse through various situations. The combat looks to be a nice blend of close quarters fighting with a staff and using those water powers for ranged ones. Such as summoning waves to carry enemies away. Along with many puzzles, this adventure to discover the past looks to be an engaging one.

Lastly, Lynked: Banner of the Spark is a game already out. There’s a lot of fluid combat here with this Future Games Show trailer, where the arm of the hero helps with both that and more life-based actions. Such as harvesting resources. Much like Animalkind, all this is done to build up a town and a community that will further the abilities that can be used. Strengthen the power of tools. If I had a lot of time to invest in it, I’m sure I would love it.

So many games attracting my interest from this Summer Showcase of Future Games Show. Many of these I’ll be keeping an eye on, especially if there’s a chance they release on consoles. Next up in this month of gaming events for me in the Xbox Games Showcase, where I’m hoping for a few more games that could get me invested enough to want them. And perhaps there’s some Switch 2 news there.
