It’s always fun when June comes around, as that means it’s Summer Game Fest time. And this year was an entertaining two hours full of trailers, with quite a few games that I’m invested in featuring here. Of course, other games such as Gen Atlas and Crossfire had my attention, but these highlights are for those games I already own or have gone onto my waiting for list. So, let’s begin with IO Interactive.
During Summer Game Fest, IO Interactive first teased a new story mission coming to 007 First Light. A mission involving Bawma, who we meet during the main game story. Seems we’ll be aiding him with something, though the teaser left it at that. As for Hitman, the next elusive target for World of Assassination will see 47 return to the ring on the Isle of Sgail to fight against Muay Thai fighter The Wizard. That elusive target is now available to give a shot, so I’ll certainly be hitting it up at some point this month.
Innersloth have wanted to bring new ways to experience Among Us, and at Summer Game Fest, they revealed two. First, Among Us Story: On Guard tells the story of the crewmate training program. Playing as the guard, it is our job to make sure the crewmates can traverse safely through the ship, avoiding the imposter. Using investigative skills when coming across the imposter’s handiwork. A demo will go live on 15/June.

Already released on Paramount+, the Among Us series showcased its launch trailer, giving an idea of what to expect from it. There’s a lot of humour with this one, as the crewmates try to keep the ship running as they head across the stars on a mission. Expressed in 2D animation that refines the look of the colourful beans, just who is the imposter? It should be an enjoyable watch finding out.
It’s Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary, with the first round of gaming news being revealed for that. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is getting more content, with the last packs for year one being shown off while also introducing year two. The other thing announced was Sonic Pico Park, delivering the usual puzzle-driven co-op action of Pico Park, but now with many Sonic elements infused with that.
There were a few other racing games shown off during Summer Game Fest, with one such game being Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. Milestone are expanding their Hot Wheels games by bringing the series into the open world. Four unique islands to explore, with many challenges to discover. A load of Hot Wheels vehicles to collect, both normal and crazy. And an enhanced track builder that I hope will prove a lot better to use than in the Unleashed games.
Announced a few days before the show, Clutch is the debut game of Maverick Games. Made up of former developers from various racing franchises, they have brought the racing action to the French Riviera in what appears to be a story-driven, open world game. There’s both circuit racing and street racing, with both communities playing a big role in this story as the player character gets involved with both.

Two Star Wars games were featured at this Summer Game Fest, with the first being Galactic Racer. The trailer showcased more characters involved in the game, along with giving an idea of Shade’s goals for entering the racing league. There looks to be many locations to race across, with podracing getting its time to shine with this trailer. Galactic Racer is dated for 6/October. But before that is Zero Company.
This turn-based strategy game showcased its customisation of the characters you can take into battle. Custom Operatives can be a variety of species, such as Togruta and Zabrak. The story of Zero Company is also looking to take us to many different planets as we work to stop the threats of the Clone Wars that no-one else is willing to take on. And it seems on this adventure, we’ll be meeting some familiar faces, with Anakin Skywalker teased at the end. I’ll love getting to this one 27/August.
The last reveal of Summer Game Fest is also the last I’m featuring in my highlights. I’ve not got any investment in the Final Fantasy series, but I’ve been curious about this remake trilogy of VII. I’ve recently been giving the demo of the first a try, which has been capturing my attention. So it won’t be long before I’m going through the full game, I’m sure. Even sooner after seeing what’s coming for Revelation – the third game of the trilogy.
With the planet on the verge of destruction, Cloud and his companions travel across the world to put an end to the forces that are pushing for that destruction. Now fully open, tackling the conflicts of the world is entirely up to the player, using the Highwind ship to quickly get around before diving to the ground. The toughest enemies yet face the heroes, with the combat further refined to take them on. Which will happen in the Spring of 2027, where Final Fantasy VII Revelation will release simultaneously on all platforms.
