It was expected that a Nintendo Direct would be coming sometime in September. With this week being the most expected time for that. Of course, no-one expected two to be announced at once. And the reasoning for that is people expected the Zelda 40th announcements to come in a general Direct. Not as a separate event a day before that general Direct.

The Zelda Direct is going to be roughly 30 minutes. Obviously, the big game that will feature here is the Ocarina of Time remake. Announced in the last Direct with just a teaser, this is clearly where we will see just what sort of remake it will be. Will it be just a straight remake but in a new engine with revamped graphics? Or is there more to it that will make this classic feel at home in a modern age? That plus the release date will be interesting to learn here.

Also interesting to learn about will be the live action movie that is coming next year. So far, we know little. We’ve seen the main two cast members of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason outfitted in their roles as Link and Zelda. And know of a few other cast members. But that is really it. This Zelda Direct should open the floodgates with a potential first trailer, letting us see hints of the story and the world.

Both of those could easily fill the 30 minute runtime, but I feel there’ll be more. There could be challenges in various Zelda games, much like what happened with Donkey Kong earlier this year. There could be a surprise shadowdrop of a smaller game, or something on one of the classics apps. Of course, Nintendo likely won’t pass up showing off a special Zelda themed Switch 2. There’s always been a Zelda special edition for every console Nintendo have released.

That Direct comes tomorrow, 8/September. Starting at 15:00 BST. The same time, but a day later on 9/September, is when the general Direct will begin. This one runs for around 45 minutes, making sense why the two have been split. Another reason for that could be keeping the big announcements for Zelda and Mario separate. After all, it’s been how many years since Super Mario Odyssey?

That first year of the Nintendo Switch sure was a great one, with Odyssey making it even better. Since then, there’s been nothing but remakes and ports for main 3D Mario adventures. Sure, we had Donkey Kong Bananza in the Switch 2’s first year, but the next Mario adventure is something that many have been wanting to see. Same for me, as I’m curious whether Bowser’s Fury was a testbed for that future game. I can’t see anything but a tease for it happening, however.

There is likely to be news of games already announced, such as Switch Sports Resort. And one or two other announcements. I could see the start of 2027 be one of those two announcements, being the smaller game of the two. I know exactly what games I’d want that smaller game to be, but both Fossil Fighters and Custom Robo are likely going to be waiting for their revival a lot longer if certain rumours I won’t mention end up being true.

Pokémon could be here. Not with any Winds | Waves news, but more generation three ports. People have been expecting Ruby | Sapphire | Emerald to be released on the Switch ever since FireRed | LeafGreen did. And there’s also Colosseum, now the last of those originally announced, to be coming onto the GameCube Classics app. I can’t see all of that happening, since some needs to be saved for next Pokémon Day. I’d certainly expect Ruby | Sapphire to come, though.

Then there’s the third party announcements. These really could be anything. From my cores, I doubt a Sonic the Hedgehog announcement would come from a Direct. It would be something if that happened, even if it was just letting the Sonic Adventure games onto the GameCube Classics app. For Star Wars, I just cannot see anything happening in that regard, until Aspyr have got another port ready to go. As for Power Rangers… No. I cannot see anything happening there. Not in a Direct, at least.

Away from my cores, I could see some of the ports that are arriving in the next few months be highlighted. Games such as The Crew Motorfest and Epic Mickey. And the Kingdom Hearts Collection. Even if just in sizzle reels. I’m curious to see if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will get a segment here, just for the fact it’s been so long since the series was on a Nintendo platform.

For what I’m most wanting out of a Direct in terms of third party, it’s another chill adventure from an indie developer. The likes of Europa and Caravan SandWitch have been some standout releases of the past. So bring more of them. Of course, I also wouldn’t say no to more racing games, including one particular series that I’ve loved since first discovering it. That being the Rush Rally series. From what I’ve seen of the dev blogs, the fourth game is looking a great upgrade from the third.

Of course, speaking of racing games, I couldn’t end without mentioning Mario Kart World DLC. It’s been a great game, with a lovely world to be exploring and great races. But as with every great thing, I want more. I feel this isn’t the time, however. At most we get the next set of additional Knockout Tours shown off here. But it would make my day knowing that more is planned to expand on this world.
