Each December, the largest gaming charity event brings two weeks of fun-filled streams, and this year is no different. With just 100 days to go until the Jingle Jam 2024 starts, I’m taking a look at the charities it will be raising money for this year, as well as my hopes for some of the streams. Since it’s always impossible to make a guess at what games will be in the Jingle Jam Games Collection, I’m not even going to try. Beyond a few genre wishes.

The two mainstays of the Jingle Jam being supported this year are Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and The Grand Appeal. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation have two projects the Jingle Jam will fund. One is to protect the endangered Amazon River dolphin. The second is to launch a digital education course for children worldwide. The Grand Appeal is the official charity of the Bristol Children’s Hospital, with the funds continuing to help develop the Jingle Jam Building.

For both War Child and Campaign Against Living Miserably, this will be the third consecutive year the Jingle Jam has supported them. War Child is helping to educate and advocate for the rights of children who are being impacted by conflict all over the world. Campaign Against Living Miserably helps young people who feel life isn’t worth living find a bright spark in their lives, keeping them going to the point of no return.

Both War Child and Campaign Against Living Miserably have entered strategic partnerships with the Jingle Jam, which will see both charities see support from the event for another three years. The other charities being supported this year include Autistica, who for a second consecutive year are being supported by the Jingle Jam. The UK’s leading autism research and campaigning charity, Autistica are helping autistic people to hold a positive outlook on life.

First of the new charities being supported are Cool Earth, an international charity working with Indigenous peoples and local communities to help slow the rise of the climate crisis. By helping protect the rainforests that can mitigate greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. Those who live in harmony with rainforests are the best people to help protect them, which is why Cool Earth are among them to listen and support them in protecting the rainforests they live within.

Sarcoma is a form of cancer that can appear anywhere in the body. On average, 5300 people in the UK will be diagnosed with sarcoma a year. The work of charity Sarcoma UK funds vital research into this type of cancer, offering support for anyone who finds themselves with it. Along with that, Sarcoma UK are driving awareness of this type of cancer, helping to provide the best treatments to enable more people to survive it.

The final charity this year is The Trevor Project, a non-profit organisation that helps young LGBTQ+ people be happy with who they are. Across the US, they are the largest campaign in the country aiming to protect young people from harmful conversion therapy practices. Along with advocating for policies and laws that help to protect the LGTBQ+ community, The Trevor Project also provides a safe space for them in the form of social network TrevorSpace.

For the first day of the Jingle Jam, perfection can’t be messed with. The office decoration is a simple premise, seeing those of the Yogscast setting up the viewpoint we’ll be seeing during the downtime from streams with some festiveness. Tom and Ben have been running the warm up stream since 2019, providing a good look at what’s to come along with some Jenga.

Then, the official opening of the Jingle Jam with community-made Christmas-themed cat videos. These always provide some wacky moments as Lewis and Simon treat themselves to the best of the submissions. Last up is the trains, with an OpenTTD session that provides a more chill but chaotic time as a group of the Yogs come together to compete in a transport business battle.

Every other day will be different, with so many different streams across the two weeks. Of course, there are some staples which will be around. A new Farming Simulator releases this year, which provides some new things to explore during the Feed A Cow For Christmas stream. A new continent is being represented in the series for the first time, so it would be fun to see them of the Asia map first.

The real life streams that happen throughout the two weeks provide some great stuff. Naturally, the Poker is always a watch as Tom and Pyrion provide the expert analysis on the sometimes not so expert plays. There’s usually some sort of cooking challenge that takes place, which has provided some great moments. Nothing will ever beat how it was presented during Camp Yog earlier this year, being as close to a real life PlateUp! as possible. Could a more festive version be happening during Jingle Jam?

TL: A rather weird Jingle Cat video. TR: A treaded claw machine drives on a road. BL: Scores of a minigame appear as the four people laugh. BR: Reactions to the awful 'breakfast' cocktail are shared by those at the table.

RTGame usually joins the Yogscast for a few days in the office, joining for some other streams back home. In the office, he’s usually brought some local play party games from the Wii or Switch. And, what with the fact they called him the drift king back in college, he will join for the Mario Kart tournament held by those racers of the Yogscast. Which I do hope returns again this year. Or make it interesting. A tournament across various other kart racers, maybe?

Across the two weeks, various streams will also put some focus on the games in the Jingle Jam Games Collection. Something from Yogscast Games is sure to be in there, much like with past years. There’s usually a focus on indie games with this Games Collection, but with how many it features, there’s usually something to grab the interest of everyone. Across the years, I’ve enjoyed games such as Dicey Dungeons, Chroma Squad, and Thief Simulator.

This year, I’m hoping for at least one racing game, as usual. But also games with worlds that I can just relax and explore. Doesn’t have to be open world, but provide plenty of areas that can offer up a few secrets. And perhaps something creative could also be in the Collection, giving me a chance to mess around in a sandbox of limitless potential.

With just 100 days to go until the Jingle Jam kicks off, there’s plenty of time to look back at some of the great moments from previous years. Help build the excitement for what’s to come. Whether that be the full streams or highlights from the various channels creating compilations. May the festivities bring plenty of joy and money raised when it begins 1/December.
