Last night, Gamescom Opening Night Live brought many great reveals as usual. For me, I might have been enjoying several of the trailers, but there’s very few that I really want. Curious of, for sure. I’ll include a few of those, though the focus very much is on what I’ve added to my waiting for list. Which includes a game I’ve been wanting to see ever since The Skywalker Saga released.
Coming in from the pre-show, the first game revealed was Bubsy 4D. Something the pre-show host was very happy to get to announce. Then followed many trailers, right up to the end announcement of Sonic and Pac-Man collaborations. Pac-Man comes to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in its season pass of DLC, while Sonic levels and costumes will make their way to Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac.
Fans of Hollow Knight will be clowning no more! Silksong appeared right at the start of the main event. Some new footage was shown, with people able to play it at the event. The main news will come at a previously announced event of the next few days. Another curiosity during Opening Night Live is a demo for Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion on Switch 2 that allows the first nine chapters to be played. That feels a lot of game time for a demo. And one I might consider.

I was curious about the trailer for The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, which proved full of action with its trailer. And sure enough, it’s an action-RPG based on an anime series. I’ll see what others think, though I’m sure at some point I’ll be exploring the world of Britannia. Another action-RPG I’m also curious on is Arknights: Endfield, which seems heavy on base-building from its trailer. But still also contains plenty of exploration and fast-paced fights to get stuck into.
As for those that have gone into my waiting for list, one of them was revealed during the pre-show. Road Kings looks to be bringing an immersive world to truck simulation. A trailer that focused on the delivery aspect of things, with text messages showing a growing rapport with those companies the jobs are for. At the end, a critical delivery has the driver being cautioned by someone on the phone, as severe storms are ahead.
In checking the site for the game, it seems Saber Interactive are very much wanting to push Road Kings as a simulator with a living, reactive world. One that very much sees you as a driver growing in reputation however you choose with the various drivers, dispatchers, and agencies of the Florida-Georgia inspired world. Jobs that are critical to the survival of others when disasters strike.
The depth Road Kings goes into will see individual parts of the truck affecting its driving, with wear of them needing to be managed. Careful driving is needed as breaking the law will affect income and reputation. It’s a game I’m very much wanting to experience once it releases next year. As someone who has been trying out various trucking games, I’m sure this will be the best of the lot.

From the main show comes the reveal of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Which aims to bring together the 86-year history of Batman from across all media as it crafts an original story. The trailer showed that this will start things out as an origin story, showing Batman’s earliest capers. Along with showing many of the famous villains from the franchise such as Joker and Bane.
The trailer also showcased the world, which depicts a very lovely Gotham that seems like it will be full of familiar places such as the Ace Chemicals factory. There’ll be vehicles to drive around it, too. The familiar theme sweeps into the trailer, giving a great chill of nostalgia as Batman glides through the streets and fights numerous criminals. There also seems to be an obsession with rubber ducks, as they appear at both ends of the trailer.
Despite Batman being the focus of the trailer, other characters are confirmed to be playable such as Robin, Batgirl, and Catwoman. Each character has their own gadgets to be using for movement and combat, too. For the first time, a TT LEGO game is going to have difficulty options to provide players with a challenge. I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck into another LEGO Batman game. Just got to wait until next year.
Gamescom Opening Night Live might be over, but there’s still a few other events across the next few days. The Future Games Show Summer Showcase provided a few interesting games for me, so I’m for sure going to watch this Gamescom one. Plenty of opinions on the demos available for those at the event will also be around, too.
