When I consider what this second expansion for Forza Horizon 5 could be, a rally theme does fit. It would fit with the ideas I discussed when talking of what I’d want to see from this second expansion. But secretly, I was hoping it wouldn’t happen. Though I might love the cross country and dirt races of the series, there’s something a lot more technical about rallying. A technical something that stops me from fully warming up to it.
That’s not to say I don’t have experience with it. I’m fond of the Rush Rally series of games that were released on the Switch. They’re an easy way to get to grips with what rallying is all about. And I have dabbled with it elsewhere, such as at arcades. But the truth of it is, I’m no good at rallying. So you might think that I’m going to snub this second expansion, then. That would be where you are wrong.
It might have a rally focus, but this is still a new location to explore. A new location that looks to fill my wishes of a multi-biome world fit for exploring. Sierra Nueva has a desert and forest, and a lot of rugged terrain. There’s an abandoned quarry and even a town within a crater. Honestly, the only thing it’s missing is some snow.
There are two types of events that all events within this campaign can be played in. Horizon Rally is the new event type, which structures the event as a typical rally. You and the roads, and aiming for the fastest time of all competitors. Complete with pace notes. That they’re allowing this choice shows that Playground is also aware that not everyone is going to like conventional rallying.
Unlike with Hot Wheels, this Rally Adventure will not restrict your vehicle class when it comes to races. Allowing all 27 of the campaign races to be completed at whatever class you want. There are three rally teams that are part of the campaign. Each of these teams has its own specialisation, with the Raptors favouring dirt events, Predators with road events, and Reapers with night events. These teams will come with challenge lists that consist of racing and other events.
The typical collectables and PR stunts can be found around Sierra Nueva, making sure that those who enjoy them aren’t left out. Epitaph Records is being added to the game, a new radio station that ties into the rally experience with some high-intensity races. Even if you don’t have the expansion, you’ll get to enjoy the delights of what it is bringing.
Playground have made sure that even if you don’t enjoy rally driving, you’ll likely enjoy this expansion. A new part of Mexico to explore, everything players enjoy from the base game, and a new event type for those who want that true rally experience. The Rally Adventure of Forza Horizon 5 will release 29/March, so get building those rally monsters to tackle what’s coming over that hill.
