The idea of seeing gameplay of some of the first games of the next generation is an attractive proposition, and this Inside Xbox was said to do just that. I’m… not entirely sure how much of what we saw was gameplay, but most of it was said to be in-engine. The trailers looked great, as always, but it does feel that seeing the differences between the generations can no longer be just in the graphics alone.

That is where the gameplay should have been used to showcase such differences. Showing the AI improvements, the greater worlds that can be built, the speed of getting into games, and the other improvements that moving a new generation can bring. However, we do know of a number of games that will be coming to the Series X thanks to this Inside Xbox.

Scorn was revealed, showing a creepy looking trailer showing off a humanoid alien that looked as though it was making another of its kind. Talking of creepy, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was certainly that, with a lone man dancing around with some of his victims hung from the ceiling. Yakuza is getting a new game in the form of Like A Dragon, which should show the differences between the two generations when more on it gets shown.

Bright Memory Infinite got a trailer to confirm it’s coming to Series X, and is using the Smart Delivery feature to ensure forward compatibility. At least, you’ll be able to get the game for free on the next-gen machine with a number of upgrades built for the new console. Most of the games shown off were confirmed to be taking advantage of it if they were releasing on the One and Series X.

Madden NFL 21 had a trailer showing a brief history of the series and the next game. The Medium is a next-gen psychological horror from the team that released Blair Witch, and definitely looks to be delivering on the horror. The Ascent is set within a cyberpunk world, delivering a co-op RPG where you’ll be battling monsters and looting new items as you survive while finding out what caused the sudden turn of events that happens.

Scarlet Nexus is a new RPG series by Bandai Namco, with weird nature-based aliens called the Others, who want to take human brains for their own now that humans have learnt to tap into psycho-kinetic abilities. Call of the Sea brings puzzling adventure, on the hunt for answers about what happened to her husband on an expedition. The art style of these two definitely made them stick in my mind once the showing had finished.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla looks to be going Viking with a teaser trailer that showed off a war on both land and sea. Second Extinction is a game about mutant dinosaurs taking over the Earth, with you and two others gearing up to reclaim it from them in fast-paced shooting action. I’ve got my eye on it, but the co-op nature is making me hesitant. Besides, these last two I’ve yet to mention are the ones that got my attention the most.

Chrous is a game set in space, with a lot of action to its name, and also a sentient spaceship. There’s mystery within the worlds the game gives to explore, and from the brief look at the gameplay within the trailer, the mechanics look fast, fluid, and fun. The graphics make the space setting really shine, and I’m sure in action it will be even better to witness.

Then there’s DiRT 5, an off-road racer that looks to be improving upon the formula of what it means to be an off-road racer. The trailer shows off some dynamic weather, ice physics in action, and plenty of crashes, bashes, and drifts. This should hopefully bring an improvement to the way we think of racers, and this will be just the start of plenty trying to be the best racer of the next generation.

This Inside Xbox delivered in showing some of the experiences coming to the next-generation, even if – to my mind – it didn’t do enough to showcase the differences with some true gameplay. This is only the start, however, and should see plenty more trailers of games coming, leading into July where Microsoft will be showing what its own studios have been working on.
