The Nintendo Switch 2 has now been out for two months. It’s provided some great experiences already across those two months, with all but one of the Switch 2 games I’ve played on it coming from the launch week. Now, it’s time to start looking ahead at what other great experiences the Switch 2 will provide. There’s plenty that’s already known, with my highlights of them included here. But then there’s the unknown. Series that are sure to come but have not yet been announced.

First, though. That Switch 2 game I’ve played not from launch week. A month after launch, so during Racing Month, Donkey Kong Bananza released. This new DK adventure I was on the fence with, but I bought it for a few reasons. One, it would be my first true DK adventure. Two, I knew it would be filled with the usual Mario charm. And three, who doesn’t love a bit of destruction in what’s meant to be a platformer?

It was as wonderful as I expected it to be. Great movement, fun bosses, a lot of nice interactions, and a lovely story of gaining confidence to follow dreams. With a song that really compliments that story. And the finale… Oh, what a finale. From just before the final layer to what transpires beyond it, everything was such a delight to experience. Now with story complete, I’m having fun just messing around with the post-game challenges.

A crowd gathers around the stalls of a person calling them with a bell, which hold fruit and flowers.

To the games of the future, then. Starting off with Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. Releasing later this month, this remake of an old DS Harvest Moon is going to be taking a lot of my time. With the typical story of bringing a once booming town back to business, the farming aspects are what will keep me invested. Along with seeing all the new things arrive as the town expands.

Two RPGs arrive in October, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A being the first. Set entirely in Lumiose City, there’s real-time battling for the first time in a main series game. That should certainly be a great system to experience. As will the first fully urban Pokémon adventure. Hopefully the Eevee are close by, so I can get to adventuring with my dynamic duo of Umbreon and Espeon.

Near the end of October comes Dragon Quest I+II HD-2D Remake. Having already enjoyed the remake of Dragon Quest III, the adventure continues with the games that were originally released before it. From what I understand, I+II are smaller stories, which is why they are being remade together. This HD-2D remake is sure to have me loving some more main series Dragon Quest.

Those are the games we have dates for. There’s more at present that have no dates. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is one such game. The third Zelda-based Warriors game, there’s so much hack n slash combat through hundreds of enemies. With plenty of generals and bosses, too. Said to be a canonical tale of Zelda’s time in Hyrule’s past, it should be a great time seeing more interactions in that era of Hyrule when it arrives this winter.

The members of Deep Cut and another of their crew sat on a wooden structure.

There’s very little known about Splatoon Raiders at present. From its initial reveal, we know it’s a spin-off that seems to solely be focused on a single player campaign hunting treasure alongside Deep Cut members Shiver, Frye, and Big Man. During one such treasure hunt, the members of the expedition get stranded on an island. So off they go to find what stranded them. It should be a very fun adventure when it comes next year.

Lastly for the known games is Farming Simulator: Signature Edition. Followers of this site know all about my love of the series and how I got into it, and now I get another handheld entry that’s not a mobile version. Based on Farming Simulator 25, everything from that game should be here. Whether it gets supported beyond initial release with DLC remains to be seen, but I sure hope it does. And also I hold hope that this time, Giants don’t revert back to mobile entries on the Switch 2 after this initial release.

The first of my wishlist games, then. Animal Crossing is a series that can keep me invested. Even before the days of customising an entire island to my liking, before the days of GRcade hangouts, I would spend years checking in to the activities of my town. Living on an island in New Horizons was fun, though I’d want things to return to a regular seaside town with the next outing. Keeping all of the island customisation but expanding on it all, plus everything else.

Next up is Mii Resort Paradise. Just kidding. I’m well aware that such a concept will never become a reality. But the idea of an open world full of sports does sound like an expansion of something else. The Mario Sports games combine many sports into one package. Completely missing the Switch, perhaps a Switch 2 game could start out with a few sports, then get expanded over the years to include more.

Left: Toad waits at the base to hit a baseball.
Right: Two dinosaurs battle on rocky ground.

Of course, I’m also wanting to see the return of a few franchises. Games that I’ve talked about before. Fossil Fighters has been without a game for over ten years, with its last release on 3DS in 2014. Uncovering dinosaur fossils is a game in itself, but then there’s raising them in battle to become stronger in turn-based fights. While the touch screen fossil uncovering does get lost in the move to a TV screen, it could always be a way to utilise mouse controls instead.

Then there’s Custom Robo, a series which hasn’t been seen for even longer. Back in 2006, Custom Robo Arena released for the DS, offering me the experience of this robot arena battler. It’s something I’m wanting to see again, with its quick fights and endless possibilities for combat styles. There’s surely more that can be done with its world, expanding on the types of combat robots available.

And very much lastly, something third party on the Switch 2. GTA VI seems out of the question. And unless there’s a GTA IV remaster coming around the same time as that giant, there’s no GTA coming at all. But perhaps something involving cars that Rockstar developed instead. Midnight Club. What I wouldn’t give for a remake from that series. Perhaps of Los Angeles, which was my first of the series and the one I absolutely loved. Some great racing experiences came from that one.

Though, I also wouldn’t mind a new game from the series. While Rockstar has all of its studios working on GTA VI, and likely their next game, it would be nice if at least one studio could go back to making smaller-scale games. While GTA and Midnight Club might seem similar, Midnight Club has the ability to go places GTA likely won’t. Meaning a new rendition of London from Rockstar could easily happen. Or somewhere else in the UK.
