With 2024 having a lot of great TV & Film content, there’s plenty already known for 2025. Unlike last year, there’s less known about my core franchises, but that won’t stop me talking about them. Away from my cores, there’s a decent amount of stuff for me to look forward to. Hence why 2025 is already seemingly packed with things to watch. Looking ahead to 2025 will show what I’m interested in.
Starting with my cores, Star Wars Andor season 2 is coming this year. Finishing the story of how Cassian Andor became the person we see in Rogue One. The first season was an absolute joy of political intrigue, showing the Empire from behind the curtain. Ways that aren’t usually shown. What with this coming in April, along with Star Wars Celebration, I can feel Star Wars Month returning this year.
A third season of Visions is returning to its anime roots, with nine new shorts coming from Japanese studios. Visions was a joy to watch, seeing varying interpretations of the galaxy far, far away. The first volume had a lot of great shorts, so I’m looking forward to it. And what with Celebration being in Japan this year, for the first time, there’s synergy here. I could absolutely see a few of the shorts debuting there alongside a release date.
And speaking of announcements at Celebration, there’s bound to be some. The opening panel will feel a bit light if it can only talk about Andor and Visions. One thing I expect there to be is an update on the films and series that are known of. Even if not much is revealed about them, it gives fans something to look forward to. Another thing I’m hoping for is the next animated series that follows from The Bad Batch. There was a lot of setup for the Clone Underground for it not to be used.
Sonic the Hedgehog had a great year in 2024 with films and series. The ending of Prime, the third movie, and the Knuckles series. That leaves this year without anything. I could see a new animated series coming, but that would depend on when Prime wrapped development. One thing for certain is that there will be a new animated short to promote Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. These are always great watches, so I will look forward to this new one.
Pokémon Horizons has been going for more than a year, now. In Japan, the series is now on its fourth story arc, Rayquaza Rising, which will continue into this year. For the dub of the series, that arc will be released as part of season two. The Search For Laqua, as it is known, will debut early this year. I’ve still yet to see the first season, holding off as I usually do for the entire series to be out. I think at some point I will be jumping in. The small bits I’ve already seen of the series have been good.
Power Rangers… There’s not much that has been coming out regarding development of any series or films. There were plans for a rebooted series and a film, but they’ve been canned. And with Hasbro on record saying they are no longer financially supporting films and series based on their IP, it seems anyone touching Power Rangers does so knowing they need to put the money in. So while we could hear something this year, the chances of anything releasing are slim. But I’m ready to be surprised.
Season six of Miraculous is said to be arriving sometime this year. After the events of season five, and Miraculous World: London, I’m ready to see what this sixth season holds. There should be plenty of varied action now that all the Miraculous are back in play. If they stay in play, that is. After all, the Miraculous of the Ladybug and Black Cat will be difficult to take if there plenty of people defending them. I’m certain this new season will bring some of the best episodes the series has seen.
Pixar have some new worlds coming with their projects this year. Elio sees the focus placed on its title character, a boy who loves sci-fi. Is obsessed with aliens. So what happens if he’s beamed into space and has to represent the Earth among all the galactic lifeforms he’s now encountering? It should be a fun one when it arrives in June. Whether I see it at the cinema, or later on Disney+, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.
It’s not just a film Pixar have coming this year, as Win or Lose arrives on Disney+ in February. Pixar’s first original series, each episode takes the perspective of a different person during the events leading up to a softball championship game. Alongside each perspective is a shift in animation style, which should make it a very interesting watch from a visual point of view.
Phineas and Ferb is returning as a series, with a few new seasons developed. I love the series, with the various plots of each episode interlinking with each other. The songs are so catchy, too. I look forward to returning to the adventures of Phineas and Ferb’s new summer vacation, and the fight of good versus evil between Perry and Doofenshmirtz, when season five arrives on Disney+.
There’s a few live action remakes of animated works coming this year. Disney is continuing their streak of such with Lilo & Stitch. That loveable alien who learns about the value of family is looking good as a photorealistic CGI model. Aside from a look at Stitch, there’s been no trailer to see other characters in action. I’m sure that will change soon enough.
From DreamWorks comes How to Train Your Dragon, which has given a look at what is to come with a teaser trailer. A teaser that does get me wanting to see more. Those dragons look so good, especially Toothless. A story of breaking traditions, and enemies becoming friends, How to Train Your Dragon is sure to be a lovely watch. Might even give the animated trilogy a watch before it arrives in June.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie sounds a riot. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig teaming up to stop an alien mind control plot? I am so there. But there’s yet to be a UK release date for it. So there’s no telling if it’ll even arrive at the cinemas. But I do want to watch it, so I’ll be keeping my eye out for that date. I’m hoping it’s at least close to the US date at the end of February.
And finally, a new Jurassic World. Moving away from the characters we’ve known from the previous trilogy, an all-new cast including Scarlet Johansson hunt for genetic material from the three largest prehistoric creatures. That material is needed to help save human lives. But then, things get sidetracked when the team uncovers a secret hidden for decades. It sounds a fun ride, so it’s just a case of finally seeing a trailer and what dinosaurs we can expect to see with Rebirth.
That’s plenty of content to be enjoying across the year. I’m sure more will make itself known as the year progresses, especially for the second half of the year. There’s also quite a bit of already released content I’ll be working through, including finally seeing all the Lord of the Rings films. And a few other franchises I’ve had on my list for who knows how many years.
