This year has seen some highs regarding TV and film content for me. Some absolutely great Star Wars seasons, a long-time coming watch of a certain franchise before its new film that I was set on watching, and a fair few other things, too. There’s not been too many misses with the stuff I’ve been watching. I’ve found everything to have some highlights that allowed me to enjoy them. So, take a read as I look back at my 2025 in TV and film.

Starting off with the Star Wars content, the largest of all that would be Andor season two. It set things up beautifully across many episodes. A lot of character interactions built up to some truly great scenes. And two so very impactful ones that would feel lesser without everything that came before. The Ghorman Massacre followed by Mon Mothma’s senate speech easily make the top two scenes of Andor, and could easily fit into a top five best scenes of Star Wars TV in general.

A surprise, to be sure, was the announcement of a second season of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. Pieces of the Past introduced a new villain who sought to vanish the entire galaxy. The season provided many characterful moments between Sig and Dev, along with Dev and Jedi Bob. And not forgetting the references to the franchise and many more alternate versions of characters we love. Including a rather fun interpretation of Padme.

Jedi Bob confronts Dev as Sig watches from between them.

Rounding out the Star Wars content of the year were both Tales of the Underworld and Visions: Volume 3. The former had some great stories with both Ventress and Cad Bane, though I do feel it was the weakest of the three Tales series. As for Visions, it again wowed with some great stories told by Japanese anime studios. While I’ll be saving my full thoughts on it for Star Wars Month, I can say my favourite has to be The Bird of Paradise. Such striking visuals for a spiritual, insightful journey.

There was nothing new for Sonic the Hedgehog this year, aside from the usual animated short to advertise the new game releasing. Once again, it was another great short. The speed and chaos of racing was really felt in the four-minute runtime, with a great showdown between Sonic and Shadow (who the short focused on) at the end. We got the announcement for the first film universe spin-off this year, meaning 2028 is going to be a great one. Though the same can hopefully be said of next year, too.

Another surprise from one of my core franchises was the announcement of more Pokémon Concierge episodes. I loved this stop-motion series when it released in 2023, so getting more was always going to make me super happy. Seeing new Pokémon created with various materials, along with some old favourites. There were some nice stories here, too. Especially with Haru being able to teach someone what it means to work at the Pokémon Resort. Even if she doesn’t realise how good she is at it.

Sealeo has squashed Haru on the beach while Psyduck looks on close by, as do an Ancanine and its trainer in the background.

The fourth of my cores hasn’t really seen anything new since Cosmic Fury ended. But that is soon to change, thanks to a new series in development at Disney. And speaking of Disney, they have a new series that is dinosaur based in Armorsaurs. A mix of live action and animation, it won’t release globally until next year. But they’ve been getting the excitement for it up with previews from the episodes. And it certainly feels like something I’d enjoy. Roll on next year.

I was looking forward to Miraculous season six. Especially with a new villain to face and all the Miraculous holders powered back up. Episodes are slowly releasing, with the first eight in the summer and five more at its end. It’s been very fun to see how things have and are changing in Paris after the end of season five. Struggles with relationships being a core theme of the episodes. And I do enjoy the new visual style, too.

Now, usually I only include things released in the year of the look back, but I did say a long-time coming watch of a franchise happened before the new film. And Jurassic Park is that franchise. Back at the start of the year, I watched all six for the first time. Well, aside from the third, which I’d seen most of before. I did love all of them, finding a great joy in seeing the dinosaurs and the action they were involved in. The plots were varied in my enjoyment of them, but that didn’t detract from my love of them.

A T-Rex emerges from grassland with mouth wide as it roars.

And then comes seeing the newest at the cinema. Jurassic World Rebirth was just as fun as the others. Some great set pieces throughout, with some nice themes displayed through the interactions of the characters. Particularly that being different is not always bad. The ending was great as well, though… Protecting those you love, even if it means sacrifice. And what happened. Lost a lot of impact such a moment could have had, but you got your happy ending, I guess.

Europa Park is 50! I’ve got no investment in that whatsoever, except for the fact they decided to celebrate with a racing theme. The game was fun, though lacking in personality. So it was up to the film Grand Prix of Europe to do better. And I loved it! Some pretty great action and character interactions with a whole lot of charm to it. Though I find it funny they decided to spoil who the real villain of the plot is before the protagonist – who is investigating that very thing – does.

I’ve not been invested in either the Marvel or DC side of superhero films that have been releasing. But, I felt with the DC universe rebooting, it would be a nice chance to watch the start of it develop. And Superman has been a nice start for it. Introduced some great characters and interactions, had a nice plot, and in general was a fun watch. And it’s got me wanting to check out past DC movies, so that’s a plus.

Two men look behind them stood at the edge of a large drop, with the vista of the blocky Minecraft world visible in the background.

A Minecraft Movie was always going to be a fun watch with Jack Black in it. Yet there was plenty more to enjoy with it. Sure, the visuals look somewhat odd, but seeing all the mobs was still a joy. Especially with sounds from the game for them. The other real people of the movie do a good job, too. Especially considering how much CGI they’re acting to.

And lastly, Doctor Who. Since the 60th Christmas specials a few years ago getting me watching again, I’ve been enjoying the adventures through time and space. There’s been some brilliantly bonkers concepts used to tell stories with a lot of heart. Both seasons have offered up those great stories and character interactions. The finales I thought weren’t the greatest ends to their respective seasons, but still with some greatness action and interactions to them.

And such ends Disney’s deal with the BBC to bring the series worldwide. There will still be more, with a Christmas special planned for next year. It just won’t involve any of Disney’s money. This Christmas special will have a lot to answer, considering the very last scene of the final episode. But I’m excited to see where it goes. And while waiting for that, I’ve got time to go back and revisit the series from its 2005 episodes along with those I missed out on.

That’s not the only thing to look forward to in 2026, of course. With my cores, the aforementioned Power Rangers (assuming it does release the same year it’s filmed), along with The Mandalorian and Grogu. Away from my cores comes Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and finally (hopefully) the Looney Tunes movies of The Day The Earth Blew Up and Coyote vs Acme. I’ll be revealing more come the start of the year and the look ahead to TV and film.
