It was a very busy month in August, with Tiny Teams, gaming events, and some new releases. This month won’t be as busy, but it is an odd one. Simply from the fact it’s pretty much both my event months rolled into one. Several racing games will be releasing across this month, with the Star Wars content coming from the new LEGO Star Wars series releasing on Disney+.
Rebuild The Galaxy was a very fun watch when it released last year. Star Wars Celebration announced that a second outing for this alternate reality of the galaxy far, far away would be coming. Since I never provided thoughts for that first outing, I will be doing so this month before Pieces of the Past releases 19/September. The second outing looks every bit as great as its first, so I’m sure I’ll be enjoying it lots.
For the racing games, coming first is Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift on 10/September. The first game, which was later released as Furious Racing on other platforms, became a meme from just how bland it was. This new game is under a new developer. Eden Games. Yes, the same developer behind the old Test Drive Unlimited games, and lately the Gear.Club Unlimited games. I’m sure this Garfield Kart will prove to be a more fun time, then.
On 18/September, there are two games releasing. One is a racing game, while the other is a game I’ve been waiting for since playing its demo during Tiny Teams 2023. Arctic Awakening, from GoldFire Studios, interested me with its narrative-driven exploration across a frozen wasteland. The demo for it ended with the reveal of a mystery, as some sort of a compound exists on the mountain. I can’t wait to get stuck into it.
As for the racing game on that day, it comes from 3DClouds. I’ve played a few of their racing games in the past, which have been enjoyable if not the most optimised. So to see that their next racing is based on real motorsport had me intrigued. Formula Legends, much like other racers I’ve played, takes a racing through the ages approach. 14 tracks, 16 racing machines from across the decades, and what’s sure to be a lot of mechanics to be invested in.
At the end of the month on 25/September comes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The other kart racer I’ve been waiting for from the start of the year. First announced at The Game Awards last year with a small teaser, the information being revealed for this one across the year has me so excited for what is to come. And finally! The rest of the Chaotix are playable, meaning I can rip up these tracks as Espio for the first time in a Sonic racing game.
Lastly for the game releases, it was announced that Skate would be releasing to Early Access on 16/September. I’m interested in giving this a go, as I did have fun with Skate 3 many years ago. This one is taking a more online approach, with one large world with many skaters gathered. Will have to see how I feel about this one, and whether it can recapture the magic of that old game I loved.
This month’s short story sees another for The Alternate Extras of Halesowen. This one is focused on Daniel, with that visit to the beach mentioned with Party Revelations – the addition from last month. Once that story is out, the planning of the stories for this third quarter will be published. That article will not include Trials of Gore Fest, considering I gave the release of it its own article that revealed the planning that went into it.
And lastly overall, the second part of my creating an RPG region from a local area series is possibly releasing this month. With the first part focused on the quadrant of the Halesowen postal code area I live, this time I’m going to the west of that, which is the most urban of the four quadrants. How is that going to translate to an RPG region, one which is mostly natural? You’ll just have to see when the second part releases.
