The world’s largest gaming charity event has announced which charities it will be representing this year, meaning the countdown to The Jingle Jam has begun. Starting on 1/December, The Jingle Jam every year has raised millions for the charities it chooses to represent. This year, 12 charities have been chosen to be represented, with an even split between those who have and have not been a part of The Jingle Jam before.

The two mainstays are Whale and Dolphin Conservation – who have been part of The Jingle Jam since 2016, and Wallace & Gromit’s The Grand Appeal – who have been part of The Jingle Jam since 2017. Whale and Dolphin Conservation are fighting for the survival of whales and dolphins, with their four goals on how to do that being the core of everything they do. The Grand Appeal is Bristol Children’s Hospital’s official charity, helping to save lives and support families through new facilities, equipment, and accommodation.

Those returning from last year are Campaign Against Living Miserably and Movember. Campaign Against Living Miserably is united against suicide, showing people that life is always worth living. Engaging in conversations to help people get what they need to avoid that final, fatal action. Movember helps men overcome struggles in their health, with a focus on three major areas men stay silent on. Through various projects, mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer are all tackled by the charity, transforming the world of men’s health services.

Two charities return from previous years… well, 2021. Those being War Child and Autistica. War Child help support children in countries where conflict has arisen. Helping to keep them safe from the war around them, War Child make sure the futures of those children are full of hope through education, psychological support, and helping to find those who are lost. Autistica are the UK’s leading autism research and campaigning charity, helping those with autism overcome the challenges they face, and aiding with research to shape and grow the knowledge of autism.

Starting off the new to The Jingle Jam charities are Hello World, who aim to connect hard-to-reach communities via their Hello Hubs. These Hello Hubs are outdoor solar-powered internet stations that get people online. By listening to the needs of that community, Hello World can set them up to direct their own education, skills-building and problem-solving through the use of the Hello Hubs. By enabling these communities with access to the internet, it brings more of the world online to learn from it. At present, almost 40% of the world is still not connected, which Hello World is aiming to change.
