August ’23 Monthly Update

Go! Go! Power Rangers! This year is the 30th anniversary of the franchise, with this month holding the exact date, so I’m going to celebrate with… something. After all, while those articles are still on the old version of the site, I have given thoughts on every season of the franchise, so it’s redundant to do so again. As such, I’ve got one or two articles to put out. Especially one touching on Ninja Storm since this year is the 20th anniversary of that series.

The month of gaming is kind of quiet this month, which is a good thing considering how packed both September and October are. I’m counting at least five in each month. There’s a lot to talk about in the next few months, then. Both with large and small releases. But that doesn’t discount this month, which allows me to focus on those smaller releases thanks to Tiny Teams.

Started in 2020, Tiny Teams is a Yogscast Games creation that celebrates solo developers and micro studios with a week of fun. Games available on Steam will see a lot of visibility during the week of the festival, as will those still in development. Sales will happen to bring exposure to those teams, as will demos. Anyone can join in the fun and play those available through Steam, but there are also games which are yet to be available on Steam, and this festival will also highlight those during streams by the Yogscast network and select partners.

For me, I’ll be playing some of the games featured during this Tiny Teams festival throughout the month. I’ve got a lot of love for various independent games, even if I’ve only recently started featuring them on the site. 3DClouds has provided some enjoyable kart racers, after all. PlateUp! From Yogscast Games has seen a lot of enjoyment from me. The Nacon Life games have been varied and interesting. There’s a lot of great stuff these independent developers bring to the gaming landscape, so I’m excited to see what’s coming for this year’s festival.

In terms of TV and films, there’s the opening of the Ahsoka series to be enjoying. Whether I review the opening episodes and then the full series, or just wait until the season is complete, I have no idea yet. It’s more than likely I do offer some thoughts on the opening, since I am excited for this live-action continuation of the threads Rebels closed on.

As a final note, Elemental Heroes 2 is being pushed back to allow for a focus on the Alternate Halesowen and Beyond series. There’s more stories to tell with The Alternate Extras of Halesowen over on Wattpad, and the fourth book to release on the Kindle store will be continuing where The Future Adventures of Halesowen left off. This series is the one I first started my self-publishing journey with, so is the one I want to return to after a break. More updates on that will follow soon.
