I got everything I wanted to do done with Star Wars Month, even if that was the same amount of articles as previous months. Well, this month is definitely going to have a lot of articles to it. Because there’s a lot of games coming this month that I’m wanting. It’s pretty much one month of the September-November period brought into the summer.
Starting things out with Mixtape, that nostalgic coming-of-age journey that was announced at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase. Relive the adventures of this group of friends as they head out for one last night of fun together. While my own past was never as extreme as the events being shown here, I still do like to look back at the fun I’ve had. And music is a great part of that. So I’ll definitely be enjoying Mixtape when it releases 7/May.
That might be the only game of the first half of the month, but the second holds three. Starting off with Forza Horizon 6 on 19/May. The beautiful locations of Japan have been recreated for this one, offering the largest map of the series. Plus a return to some serious progression through events, which is welcomed. Especially after Horizon 5’s lack of it. This will be one I’ll invest a lot of time into.
A few days later on 22/May comes LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. TT Games are celebrating the history of Batman with this one, mixing various eras together to create a single cohesive story. There’s few playable characters with this one, but it seems a lot of work has gone into combat and exploration to make this a Gotham you’ll want to spend time in. I certainly will.
Lastly on the games front is 007 First Light. While I’m not a Bond fan, I love what IO Interactive have provided with the Hitman series. So seeing what they can do with a different game, even if the template is similar, will be great. The addition of car chases and other action set pieces will provide some differences to that template. And with this being an origin story, it should be an easy jumping on point. With it releasing on 27/May, it is sure to be a lovely way to cap off the month.
In terms of other media, Star Wars Day brings the last two episodes of Maul: Shadow Lord. A series that has been great right from its first two episodes. The rest of the episodes so far have continued that greatness, building to what should be an epic ending for this first season. A season that I’ll be giving my thoughts on the same day the final episodes release.
In May 2001, a film released that would catapult DreamWorks Animation to success. That being Shrek. This film about an Ogre learning what it means to love proved popular enough to gain sequels and spin-offs, with the fifth main feature film releasing next year. I enjoy the Shrek films, so it’s time to break out a Moonlit Critbit to talk about what I love about the four main films.
Camp Yog time means this is the month the next two chapters to Yogsimulated 2 will be released. These two chapters leave the vehicle racing behind for some exploration of what else this simulated Bristol has to offer. While it won’t be released as soon as Camp Yog ends, it will be this month. The full cover won’t be added with these chapters, as I felt it would make for a nice way to celebrate the last two chapters being released in August.
Even with all that, there’s still a chance for more. Maybe another game I have an interest in releases. Some sort of event to reveal games. And also the possibility of offering thoughts on The Mandalorian and Grogu when I see that with its release in cinemas near the end of the month. Plus, if I can fit it in, thoughts on Tomodachi Life that released last month.
