May ’23 Monthly Update

A slow April won’t continue into this month. Already, it has seen my Jedi: Survivor review, and there’s another big game out this month that I want to take a look at. Yes, it’s been a long time since its original announcement back in 2019, but The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is finally arriving this month. I’ll be talking about it, though whether that takes the form of a review or experiences remains to be seen. It really depends on how much story progress I make over the weekend. If it’s anything like Breath of the Wild, probably not much.

Nor will much progress likely have been made even a month later. The world and exploring it was one thing I absolutely loved from that game, and it’s likely to be the same with Tears of the Kingdom. Even if this is mostly the same Hyrule, it’s been over five years. It’ll be like revisiting somewhere after a long time away, awakening memories of good times in those places.

Another game I’m looking forward to is Farming Simulator 23. This mobile entry in the series is looking to bring in some of the new features of FS22, such as the production chains. And for the first time in the mobile branch, there’s going to be two maps. It’s time to let farming fever take me once again as I return to the series on the Switch.

Over on the Xbox, there’s LEGO 2K Drive. This was a brilliant announcement to see, as a racing game in the LEGO universe is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for once the licence opened up to developers other than TT Games. From previews, this is looking to be a great one, offering a lot to get stuck into and enjoy. I’m sure it will be a great racer, but whether it can be one of the greats of this year remains to be seen.

4/May is Star Wars Day, and this year Visions Volume 2 will arrive on Disney+. I’ve still yet to see the first volume, so this is the perfect reason to cover both on the same day. While volume 1 focused exclusively on anime studios, the second has broadened out to feature more countries, and more animation styles. Including one by Aardman that features their usual stop-motion animation and humour.

There’s likely to be more articles I’ll be publishing, though it all depends on whether I feel there’s enough to the upcoming Saints Row expansion to cover. That’s not the only one, of course, but it is the only one I’m going to mention.
